Day Three

Day Three......

I left at 4 am.  Unbelievably it was really cold at around 60 degrees F. Really quiet and spooky. My back was really starting to hurt, not sure if I had been affected by the constant heat bearing down from above but my neck and top of the spine was in agony most of the day. I also started to get really bad nose bleeds and after doing about 72 miles and noticing the heat was rising fast to stupid levels so I decided to give up.....

The Garmin temperature was showing 139 degrees F (59 degrees Celsius).  Not a single soul was out on the streets except me.

I found the safety of the nearest place where I could get water and rest which was McDonalds in Castellon de la Plana. I stayed there for 2 hours and planned my escape.  Best route home was bus to Barcelona, train to Girona and fly back home.

Best decision I ever made.  See you again soon Castellon,    to be continued....

Day Two

Day Two...

Set off from Barcelona around 4:30 am just to get some miles in before the heat of the day arrived. Great decision....

Todays route took me past Camp Nou, and just outside Barcelona was Gaudi's house... nice place.

The coast south of Barcelona is a collection of holiday resorts and beaches with long promenades and it was nice to be beside the seaside all day, with a sea breeze.  However, the heat was getting intense and I started to worry about the trip. I got to Amposta after 112 miles and the temperature was at 119 degrees F !!!!!
